About Kara:
Kara grew up traveling and living around the tropical Pacific, learning to understand, respect, explore, utilize, love and embody the ocean and the life it supports. Throughout her life she has spent time living and working in Fiji, Indonesia, St. John USVI, Palau, Micronesia and the Marshall islands. She has a Bachelor of Arts in marine biology and a Masters of Science in marine resource and environmental management, as well as a Certificate in Pacific Island Studies from the University of Hawaii. She has worked in international fisheries management and policy, marine education and training, and capacity building on small Pacific Islands for the last 10 years. She is endlessly inspired by Pacific island people culture and continues work alongside and in support of the communities of this region today.
Kara was introduced to yoga as a teenager in Hawaii and what began as a personal practice has evolved into a parallel career over the years. She is a 500 hour certified Yoga Instructor and has led yoga classes and programs throughout Hawaii and internationally, including Indonesia and Pohnpei and Kosrae Islands in Micronesia. She founded a 'yoga in the workplace' program at the NOAA Fisheries office in Honolulu that is still running today. She also offers private classes, workshops, 200 hour Teacher Training programs, and she teaches regular Yoga classes on the island of Oahu. Kara is also a PADI certified Dive Master and Naturalist diver with over 1000 logged dives.
Kara is in the process of launching her first nonprofit called the Yoga Empowerment Project. Check it out on her facebook page for more info on impact and empowerment driven Yoga services and retreats around the Pacific Islands Region.
